Gianluigi Buffon tribute vid
April 28, 2008
It’s not really UEFA news, but I can’t get enough of watching this incredible goalie, who, along with Fabio Cannavaro and Marco Materazzi on defense, will make Italy very tough to score on this summer. Health permitting, of course.
Shades of Dino Zoff…
What a success!!

Bernd Schneider undergoing operation
April 26, 2008
Schneider may not be Germany’s biggest star, but he is high-scoring at the midfield position and has strong technical skills. That’s why Germany’s coach Joachim Löw can’t be happy to hear that Schnix will undergo a back operation that could sideline him until July. Schneider has played in only 15 Bundesliga games but earned 6 caps during UEFA 2008 qualifying. Needless to say, he adds a strong element to Germany’s attack that may not be there come tourney time.

Rosicky, Diaby injured
April 25, 2008
The Czech Republic and France got bad news from Arsène Wenger, who confirmed that Tomáš Rosický and Abou Diaby will miss the remainder of Arsenal’s season.
Though a healthy Rosický would be a safe bet to make his country’s squad and Diaby a fringe, both players provide depth with experience at multiple positions. Hard news, especially for the Czechs.

Vastic but not Scharner?
April 24, 2008
Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has chosen Ivica Vastic for his squad but not Paul Scharner. Hickersberger has said in the past he wants a young team, but Vastic is 10 years older than Scharner. Makes you wonder. Hickersberger says Vastic is important as a potential replacement for Andreas Ivanschitz, but I say he’s making a mistake. Scharner has great reactions and athleticism. Check it out:
Refs expected to crack down on forceful players

UEFA last week told refs to crack down hard on players who use excessive force or show dissent.
Ironic that Monika just posted a Zidane video, eh?
Love the parody clip. For old time’s sake, let’s watch the original:

Kuranyi will be on the German squad
April 19, 2008
Having scored 4 goals in Tuesday’s game against Energie Cottbus, Kevin Kuranyi has been promised a spot on the German squad by Coach Joachim Loew.
Kuranyi has scored 14 goals this season for Schalke 04, and if he plays as well as the video below shows he can, he’ll be a strong addition for Germany.
